I painted this in remembrance of Kobe Bryant, who passed away tragically in January 2020. I’ve been following the NBA since 1990 and this was the saddest day I can remember as a fan. I was in 8th grade, excited for the Olajuwon/Drexler/Barkley squad in Houston when a friend mentioned a young 18-yr old rookie on the Lakers named Kobe Bryant. Since then, he’s felt like a regular part of my life over the next 24 years: 1996-97: “Who is this kid?” 1998-1999: “Overrated. Eddie Jones is better.” 2000-2002: “Fine he’s good…it’s kinda unfair that he and Shaq are on the same team.” 2003-2004: “What a feud this is!” 2004-2005: “McGrady is better” 2006-2007: “I need to watch. Every. Laker. Game.” 2008-2010: “He might actually catch Jordan” 2011-2013: “When will we get a Kobe-Lebron Finals? 2013-2016: “He’s trying too hard to stay relevant” 2020: “Can’t believe he’s gone” :((((((( RIP Kobe. I'm sad to see you go so soon.
